LGBTQ+ MeetMeOnBoard App Helps Gay Community Connect at Sea
When it comes to traveling, the idea of going on vacation can be both exciting and nerve racking. I travel to Explore new places, meet new people, see new places, and eat and discover new foods and flavors. These are just some of thel things that excite me. Yet, as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, there’s always the fear of not being welcome. There are places that Gay travelers should avoid travel to, but even when traveling to countries with LGBTQ+ protections there’s always bigots and unwelcoming individuals.
Traveling by cruise ship can also be an interesting experience. Most of the companies are very LGBTQ+ friendly and even have gay tours, travelers and LGBTQ+ charters. Some, such as Carnival Corporation who own Seabourn, Holland America and other cruise lines, have a 100% HRC score. Yet that doesn’t mean the guests share the same value.
From large ships of 5,000 people to small ships of 250, once you go on vacation travelers are sharing the same space and venues for anywhere from a week to upwards of a month. Finding a ship with other like minded travelers is a win.
Now MeetMeOnBoardis another resource that facilitates like minded gay travelers to meet each other pre-travel. Because honestly, connecting with other gay and lesbian travelers and allies is a way to enhance one’s vacation. Plus, we don’t always want to charter a boat. It’s fun to mix with other people of different cultures and communities. This is why we travel. To experience something new.
MeetMeOnBoard App
The new app, MeetMeOnBoard helps LGBTQ+ cruisers find and meet up with other LGBTQ+ travelers. The app is tailor for the queer cruiser community to be a resource throughout the cruise planning process. Utilize it before booking to find sailings that already have a number of LGBTQ+ travelers after booking to find others to meet up and plan activities with.
MeetMeOnBoard is among the first tailored for the queer community who go on cruises. The app offers customizable profiles that cruisers can use to find others with similar interests. Find other travelers who like to drink or dance. Or maybe someone to share an excursion with. TWant to meet for dinner? There’s a place for that.
There is also a community forum for people to ask questions about ships and events. There is even an option that allows users to create custom events and invite others to attend.
The app also provides access to LGBTQ+ resources that have been supplied by various participating cruise lines including Atlas Ocean Voyages, Virgin Voyages, and Uniworld.
MeetMeOnboard is available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Download it and let me know what you think.
Other Resources for Gay Travel
The MeetMeOnBoard app is an evolution of a website that was first built in 2008. Yet there are several other resources for LGBTQ+ travelers. Personally, I always start by saying use a Gay Travel Advisor. As we know what resorts and cruise lines that are friendly towards our community. We also may have insight on charters, events, and theme cruises. If you’re looking for a gay travel agent, contact me, at Scott & Thomas Travel.
Next consider looking on travel forums. There are many Facebook groups for just about every cruise line and ship. Many departures also have specific groups too, so you can connect with travelers on your ship before you depart. Check out groups such as Gay Traveling friends or Gay CruiseRs – All Cruise Lines
You can also find specific forums, questions, and groups on Reddit and Cruise Critic. If you want to meet before traveling, ask questions, or learn more about the ships these are great resources too. There are both forums large and small, but a great place to start the conversation.
Finally, consider the LGBTQ+ Cruise. There are entire ships and resorts that cater to our community. Where you know you will be welcome. There are also towns across the world which have large welcoming populations. From Spain to Mexico to the USA and beyond, there are campgrounds, hotels, and entire cities ready to welcome you with open arms.
Bottom Line
Gay Travel is booming and there are more resources than ever to make for the perfect LGBTQ+ vacation. From new apps to gay travel agencies and gay travel agents, be sure to use your resources before dropping thousands of dollars into a vacation. Although many people know how to book travel, there are still several advantages to using a Travel advisor. Expert knowledge, discounts, onboard credit and an ally in your corner when things go awry are just a few reasons to always utilize a travel agent.
MeetMeOnBoard is another resource you can download and tuck away for when you are planning your next vacation. Check out the app and join the community and hopefully your next vacation will be even better than your last! Go and explore the world. We all need to experience new things and places.
