Cycling Kyoto to Osaka 自転車で京都から大阪へ [AdSense-A] Japan’s longest bicycle road winds from Kizu, which is close to Nara City, to Arashiyama, which is in western Kyoto. The bike road is used by walkers, bike commuters, students, and cyclists alike. It is 47 km (29 miles) from end to end, and follows rivers the entire way. From Kizu, it is built on top of the levee adjacent to the Kizu River. At Yawata, the Kizu River joins the Uji River and Katsura River to form the Yodo River, which then flows into Osaka Bay. At that point, the road crosses a large red bridge that crosses the rivers, and then continues north up the Katsura River to Arashiyama. There are bollards scattered along the way that mark the distance. For those wanting to ride from Kyoto to Osaka (or Nara), the return trip can be done in a day. And during that ride, only at the very end – from Kizu to Nara, or the area near Osaka Castle – will you have to share the road or be near an automobile.
