Goldman (Editor) Just Imagine Inc., 2020 302 pp, paperback There are positives and negatives galore in this 300-page book, which promotes itself as a guide to “affordable, independent Japan travel.” Positives On the positive side, there are a number of things that can be learned, even by jaded veterans of Japan. For example, the book says it was General Douglas MacArthur who, during the occupation, ordered the simplification of the Japanese written language because he was told that “the complexity of the Japanese language was a deterrent to the economic recovery of Japan.”The book says vending machines that offer alcohol for sale are A.I. equipped to estimate the age of the prospective buyer. Wow. Perhaps the best thing about the book is the number of useful links it gives to websites about everything you will need for your trip to Japan. It has links for airline flights, bus companies, car rentals, hotels and other accommodation options, reduced price, or even free (!) tours, cell phone options, and translation apps, among others.
